Projects Under Construction is the title of a large-scale portrait exhibit currently in development. The series includes oil paintings of a growing list of extraordinary individuals – artists, activists, humanitarians, political figures, and civilians alike – all of whose lives and efforts deserve current and closer examination; most of whose ideas were in transition and largely unrealized. All aspects of the project - including the creation of work, auxiliary writings, a community teaching component, and exhibitions featuring the full Projects collection - are designed to raise awareness about the goals and contributions of these little-known, controversial, or misrepresented individuals, investigating historical facts, popular myth and mainstream media, as well as the trajectory of life, in general. The entire body of work is a constantly-evolving, visual tool for critical examination on both creative and historical levels.
Projects Under Construction is scheduled for exhibit in 2010. This work has been made possible, in part, by The Puffin Foundation and Harlem Arts Alliance.
